Reading Endorsement - Competency 4/5

Foundations and Applications of Differentiated Instruction

In this course, teachers will have a broad knowledge of students from different profiles in order to understand and apply research-based instructional practices by differentiating process, product, and context. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem solving process: use data to accurately identify problems, analyze those problems, design and implement interventions, and intensify instruction based on individual student needs.

  1. The value of assessments gives the teacher and student a compass to recognize where they are on their learning journey. They have a moment to reflect on wether the learning they are engaged in has had a desired result. The purpose of education is to bring the student from point A to point B within a guideline (or a benchmark as we say in education). The student contract is a great tool for assessing whether the student is on tract. Checking the accomplishment of their "signed contractis an assessment and because the student has had a say in the choice of work they have a greater personal committment to see their course accomplished. The teacher can act as facilitator and assessor of the progress they are making along the way while havcing created a differentiated environment. I am learning the abstract ability to project a choice of ideas for the student to achieve on rtheir individual levels.
